Just one plugin is needed to enable document upload and analysis functionality for your chatgpt.

Claude 2.0 supports document reading and analysis, but ChatGPT has not made any progress yet.

Hello everyone, regarding the need to assist reading with AI by uploading documents, ChatGPT users can currently only achieve this functionality through third-party websites or plugins, and most of them are paid.

Therefore, someone has developed a plugin that allows you to implement this functionality directly on the official ChatGPT webpage in advance. It is called chatgpt-file-uploader-extended, a free and open-source browser plugin.

Principle#

2

The principle is to provide the file you provide in segments to ChatGPT and let ChatGPT know that these are segmented documents through prompts. After receiving the prompt indicating that the last segment has been uploaded, ChatGPT will analyze the content and answer the questions you ask next.

Of course, all of this is automatic, so you don't have to worry about it. Just upload the document.

Settings#

3

Before using it, we need to click on the gear icon to set the Chunk Size, which is the size of each chunk. You can think of it as the number of characters that will be sent to ChatGPT. The larger your file, the smaller this value should be, which means more segments and longer processing time. However, the official recommendation is around 10,000-15,000.

Below that, it shows the supported document formats, which are 35 in total. It supports almost all common and uncommon formats, so you can upload without worrying about it.

For the prompts page, you don't need to do anything, just keep the default settings. However, if you understand it or have other requirements, you can customize it.

5

As for the settings for compressed files, it supports uploading compressed files, but if you don't need to analyze all the files in the compressed package, you can set it here to ignore certain formats. If you don't need it, just keep the default settings.

Effect#

6

That's about it. Just go ahead and upload the documents you need ChatGPT to assist you with reading, such as analyzing various books, translating papers, and summarizing articles. One benefit is that by having ChatGPT answer questions based on the document, it can avoid making things up or talking nonsense.
